The Cambridge Motor Boat Club is based on the riverside at Waterbeach (about 5 miles north of Cambridge) and is open to boaters and non-boaters alike. We offer a clubhouse, beautiful grounds, and a limited number of moorings. There is a comprehensive calendar of events throughout the year, in addition to the boating activities.
We are a very friendly club, and, especially if you are new to the river, there is always someone on hand to help or advise you on anything you need to know about your boat! As we are a self-run club, not a marina, we rely on the involvement and commitment of members to keep it running.
The Cambridge Motorboat Club was formed in 1911 and has continued to grow in strength and vitality since. We have a superb club house, recently renovated with new windows, doors and ceilings. It boasts kitchen, bar, toilets, showers and a large function room with tables and seating together with a dancing area. Outside there are members' caravans and chalets, and a tennis court. The area between the clubhouse and river provides an ideal area for barbecues or just sitting to enjoy the surroundings, and the permanent marquee offers shelter from the weather. The clubhouse is situated at Clayhithe, in beautiful grounds with riverside and basin moorings. All the Club's moorings are normally taken up and there is a waiting list, and members have to belong to the Club for at least a year before they can apply for one. However, we can usually find a space for a member wishing to bring their boat to the Club for a day or two.
If you would like to know more about the Club, or think you might like to join, please contact the Secretary. The annual membership subscription from 2016 is £75 per adult with a joining fee of £30 each.
